Talking of Charge Syndrome I am wondering if anyone in Canada can help an adult
Charger..........
This is a young girl in her early 20's. Like most Charger's she is legally
deaf/blind. She has colobomas and some acuity issues but she is not totally
blind, just legally blind (hope that makes sense) and she does wear hearing
aids and is not profoundly deaf. She also doesn't have a great relationship
with her family (her family see her as disabled and are very angry - her
parents divorced as a result of her disability and the issues surrounded in
raising her) but she is desperately trying to make it on her own.
For the last few months she has been sharing a place not far from Hamilton,
Ontario (don't ask me any more than that my geography is BAD) and working at
McDonalds.
Unfortunately last week McDonalds decided that her dual disability of being
deaf/blind wasn't going to work at McD's and she lost her job. With no job she
is going to get kicked out of her share place (actually they have given her
notice to get out)
This young lady is beside herself and has been suicidal all weekend. Her CHARGE
family are being great in that regard but what she really needs is a job and a
place to live.
Does anyone have any bright ideas or contacts that I can pass onto her? She is
willing to do ANY sort of work. Her first love is kids and child care but she
is willing to clean toilets if need be. She seems like a really nice kid though
obviously I only know her via email. It hits a bit close to home for me because
there but for the grace of G** (or whatever powers that be) could go Alex in a
few years.
Her immediate needs are
Somewhere to live
A job
Transport - she obviously can't drive and at the moment lives in a "small" town
and needs transport to get into Hamilton which I gather from what she writes is
a larger town and therefore has more opportunities for employment.
She could also do with some basics eg clothes, food etc.
Come Monday she plans to get herself into Hamilton even if she has to walk and
just roam the streets handing out resumes.
Anyone from Canada have any thoughts?
I have not lost my mind - it's backed up on disk somewhere.
