[tri-med] Re: Can you help?

to inflame
anyone by this topic. I realize that this picture will stay, but I hope
it
isn't the first website that new parents facing a trisomy 13 diagnosis
see, as
It was for me. <<<<<<<<

Kristen, you didn't upset me, and as Karen says we really do need to be
able to discuss things like this or the list is not living up to its
full potential. And while I agree with Karen that people need to be
shown all pictures, the good and the bad I think we need to realize that
those are very clinical pictures i.e. like in a medical text book, and
in any medical text book I have ever looked at showing any condition
other then normal they are never the nicest pictures, I think this it to
be clear as to the 'look' of the syndrome or condition so that the
condition can be recognized. As Karen said she only post "good"
pictures of Alex and I am guilty of the same, and in many of Rebecca's
"good" pictures she looks fairly normal, infact I have shown people who
don't know her picture and been told what a beautiful girl she is :) I
am not saying I don't have equal share of pictures that are dorky
looking that make her look disabled, I just choose to share the good
ones :0) but as learning tool the "good" pictures are not going to help
anyone identify her syndrome. I suspect that if that page is 10 yrs old
it was not necessarily put there for parents but for professionals
looking for info as `10 years ago the internet was not something that
every lay person had access to. I can understand your dismay as a
parent with a prenatal dx looking for information being dismayed with
the pictures, and I am looking at it differently because I did not have
prenatal dx and am seeing pictures like that after being introduced to
the realities of the trisomy world so that does make me view them
differently
