[tri-med] Books for Feeding

I have already posted my absolute favourite - Pre Feeding Skills. If anyone in
Aus wants a copy of the most used parts I have it photocopied here and they are
welcome to it. I don't practice anymore and its sitting here collecting dust.
Pre-Feeding Skills was the ONLY text I ever got out for Alex. I was always his
mother not his therapist.

I have absolutely NO IDEA where you would get these - chances are your
therapist has them sitting on a shelf somewhere. Here in Aus I buy them from a
place in South Australia that specialises in therapy books and testing
equipment. But the US is the US and you guys can get anything!!

To keep it in one email I have re-written the Pre-Feeding Skills in again.
These are just "my" personal favourite books on the subject. They are not
specific to our kids.

Pre-Feeding Skills: A Comprehensive Resource for Mealtime Development
by Suzanne Evans Morris, Marsha Dunn Klein,

Dysphagia (Swallowing Disorders): A Manual for Use By Families and Caregivers
Under the Direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist
Grant W. Jones, Jerry V. Ireland, M.C. Feldmann, Rae Reinhart, and Anastasia
Yozwiak

Evaluation and Treatment of Pediatric Feeding Disorders : From NICU to
Childhood
Cheri Fraker, Laura Walbert

Swallowing Disorders : What Families Should Know
Tom Rader, Barbara Rende

This last one is a "kit" that therapists can buy. It contains a variety of
different cups and spoons and stuff that are "staples" in treating oral motor
problems.

"Let's Eat!" Feeding Kit

There is also another book and kit called Whistle Therapy? I think and it comes
with a bag of different whistles. For most of the kids on the list it's
probably a bit advanced but its excellent for children who have learnt to blow
and are past the blowing out candles and ping pong balls stage. Controlling
your breath is essential in speech development and so the controlled breath
needed to blow whistles is an excellent therapy. And along those lines - straw
drinking is great for bladder control and I personally believe it helps with
reflux. (next time you have a drink from a straw think about what your bladder
is doing at the same time totally unconsciously and you will see what I mean!!)

Sorry rambling again and I need to go to work..........

I have not lost my mind - it's backed up on disk somewhere.
