I remember someone asked about lengthening their childs bones. I
responded with some information about my tooth/gum problem, where the
dentist had peeled back the gum, scraped away cystic tissue, then
some bone, which they mix with this "magic stuff", (don't know what
it's called). It is supposed to grow more of your own bone. Well it
is about 8 weeks since the original procedure. The area has never
really completely healed, and about two weeks ago an abscess
developed, it got bigger, and a week ago I went back to the dentist,
who put me back on anti-biotics, (my original dentist was away).
Yesterday I went back and had to have to whole thing opened up again,
and cleaned out. While he was in there he said that the bone was
trying to grow, but my body was seeing it as a foreign invader (like
your finger would if it got a splinter in it, it becomes inflamed).
So to keep on with the antibiotics. Washing mouth several times a day
(especially after meals) with warm salty water. He has not sutured it
this time, so it can drain. (yuk).
Anyway the purpose of this email, is to draw attention to the
possibility of rejection with this sort of procedure.
If it flares up again, I will lose the tooth. It is so frustrating
(not to mention the expense, as we are not covered for more than
basic dental treatment).
I was supposed to be seeing Tess today, but I've cancelled, as I'm
afraid of passing on "bugs" to her. Not to mention the possibility of
getting a friendly pat in the mouth as she is prone to do sometimes.
Jocelyn, loving Nanna to Tess with Trisomy 18, age 11 years
