Dom had the lousiest of care for his first 21 months, but he had a spark that
I have seen in many of our Triers. There was no doubt in my mind by the end
of the first day that he was in our home that he was not only a survivor, he
was also smart and clever. I was on the phone to the assigned social worker the
next morning telling her someone has made a mistake about this kid. He does
not need to be placed in a residential program for the retarded. Of course i
had no idea at the time that we would end up being his parents, but in spite of
all we have been through, the worst of it having nothing to do with Trisomy
18, i am sure glad that things turned out the way they did.
