I have just read your email and although I cannot help with the therapist
issue as we live in the UK. I was interested to hear you have a little boy
with Trisomy 8 mosiac as we have a 2 year old with the same and I know Gina
has a little boy also. I also understand that because it is mosaic that it
can occur anywhere in the body, so our boys may well be all quite different
but there may be some similarities. My son has been through a few dramas
since he was born 3 months premature (was your son born prem or full term?)
such as a malrotation correction, he has an eye opacity, a missing corpus
callossum (center part to brain) and poor muscle tone. But beside all this
he is an amazing little boy with a wicked sense of humor and he is so
determined.
I would be very keen to keep in touch with you, as you are probably aware
there are only a few of us world wide and i was so relieved when I first
heard from Gina on this web site. If I hear of anything that can help I will
be in touch.
Katy. son with Trisomy 8 mosaic.

Subject: [tri-med] Behavior Modification

We have an eight year old boy diagnosed at the age of one with trisomy
mosaic 8. He has had 12 operations to correct feet and tendon issues and
has been through therapy for audio recognition. He is involved in
mainstream education, is functioning above his grade level in IQ. Our
problem is he has a focus issue where when he focuses on the computer or a
book, he can not focus to go to the bathroom. He has developed almost a
compulsive nature toward electronic games to the point of sneaking time on
the computer when he has been asked to play with books, puzzles, or toys.
We would like the name of a therapist is the Pinellas County, FL area, who
can help us with positive Behavior Modification. We do not use punitive
actions (time outs, etc.) as they only seem to frustrate him and he can not
seem to relate them to the misbehavior. We need tools to help this young
man. We know the Behavior Modification has to start with us; but we don't
know what to do. Does anyone know
 o
f a person in our area whop specializes in this particular issue. thank
you in advance.
