back of both hands as well as the insides of the of the elbow ( where they
usually try and take blood) do both arms, and try and get them over the
veins. That way they have room to look for other veins. The down side is
that the emla patches cause vasoconstriction which can make the veins harder
to find.
I guess I should check with the doctor, I guess, as Becky is on a
vasodilator...don't want to cause her any further problems. She doesn't
actually mind one or two sticks it is just sometimes it takes 3 or more :(
What we really hate...yes, I find it painful to watch...is the 'fishing'.
You know, sticking her THEN trying to find the vein...grrrr. I know its hard
but some seem to have no trouble with Bec. I wish they had a little more
humility and were quicker to admit defeat and call in someone who can do it
quick the first time.
Also would the emla cream work for an arterial blood gas????
