Ok, we are finally home. Again, to stay this time I hope. Surgery was a
success but Bec had trouble keeping her sats up as she came out of
anesthesia.....the surgeon had asked me to bring along her CPAP (and even
suggested bringing along her pulse ox monitor) which I did but low and
behold the anesthetist wasn't permitted to use it!!!!!.....I eventually had
to sign a waiver releasing the hospital of responsibility and apply and
monitor it myself! Bec needed oxygen until Tues though they continued to try
to reduce the level and finally late Tues was able to maintain in the 90s
without any.....till we got home...I put her to bed and put the monitor on
her and she was at 66!!!!even with the CPAP couldn't get her above 83. Ended
up rushing her to our local hospital (much closer) and we have been there
since. Just arrived back home today and both are very tired (spent Mon and
Tues nights catching what sleep I could on plastic stacking chairs). Bec's
own respirologist ended up looking after her (Bec's fav) (and I got a
bed!!!!) and ends up that it took Bec much longer to get the anesthetic out
of her system. The oxygen was gradually reduced through the week and
comparative chest x-rays showed improvement in her lungs so here we are,
very thankful for all of those who prayed for her and HOME (to stay)!!!!!
I was frustrated at the hospital re the CPAP, as less oxygen is needed (for
Bec) while using it, sometimes just the pressure is enough, especially as
she came out of the anesthetic.....her resp. thinks the oxygen actually
reduces her drive to breathe, oh well, am not thinking clearly enough to
continue just wanted everyone to know that we re BACK!
