It is sooooooo helpful to have more than one adult attend these
appointments. We're fortunate that Jim's not missed one of Alex's in 16 yrs
(of course, we don't hardly go to anything anymore so it's easier) so they
were scheduled out far enough in advance that he could arrange to take the
time off.

Having 2 brains digesting the info and coming up with diff questions is
helpful as well as NOT having to try and explain everything when you get
home and maybe "spinning" it in a fashion it was not presented (like the
differing views you and the hubby had).

If both parents are involved in the raising of the child (both making
decisions--not one "in charge" parent and the other not wanting to change
that method) it is VITALLY important that both parents be there when it's a
meeting/appointment that will have consequences for future medical
treatment/education etc. That way you can both be on the same page for the
child and both informed/involved in the process for the best outcome. It
helps eliminate the "why did you make that decision?" from the non-attending
parent and allows them to have valuable input into the process. Jim and I
ALWAYS have ideas/questions that didn't occur to the other one.

We too have left meetings and had a different take on some pieces of
information. It's also hard for me to leave out the emotions and look at
things that way, something Jim's much better at. I'm also a "between the
lines reader" and he doesn't do that either.
