thanks everyone. We came to the hospital last night. The dr said 3 days was
enough of throwing up/no calories. i called him last night worried because he
was throwing up still and it was yellowish with black dots in it. and his eyes
just looked so drawn in and weird. we were doing the pedialyte at 30cc an hour
and he was still throwing up. i knew it was time.
so here we are. we were in emergency all night, he was getting IV fluids, and
they did x-ray to check for blockage, took bloodwork and took urine. we are
being admitted to a room in a few minutes, i hope we will be able to go home
later tonight or tommorow. he is sleeping, very lethargic, but his eyes look
more normal and he looks so much better due to that. my GI had keft orders
before we even got here as to what he wanted done and one of them was to have
us admitted for observation etc. he was so annoyed this morning when he found
out we were still in emergency and i am not surprised. The people here work and
move like molasses. things are ordered and we don't see anyone for hours. i
feel totally neglected though i guess that is how it is in american ER's.
i have heard of duocal, what a great idea to add it to pedialyte.. jason used
to use that in his formula before he got his g-tube.
thanks
sharon

Hi! So sorry to hear about Jason.
Caroline sometimes gets the same way. We try to give just Pedialyte (never
her food when she is vomiting) via her feeding pump at an incredibly slow
rate - like 20cc/hr. Her BAD vomiting usually lasts less than a day. A
few times it has lasted longer and I took her to the ER. They did a quick
check and usually (actually ALWAYS) find she has an ear infection. For some
reason, an ear infection will make her vomit like CRAZY and give her a high
fever. If she is dehydrated they give her an IV. They also give her a shot
of Rocephen (sp) for the infection. They send us home with an rx for more
antibiotics, but sometimes just the shot is all she needs. She is much
better almost within hours. Actually, the first time this really happened
was on vacation about 3 or so years ago. We kept thinking she was getting
better, but the fever kept resurfacing and the vomiting just wouldn't stop.
We took her to the local ER and she has massive infections in both ears.
POOR thing! But once diagnosed, she quickly recovered. Luckily I rarely,
if ever, get antibiotics for my kids so when they do really need them, they
work SO fast!!
Hope Jason is doing better, please give us an update when you get a chance!!
