[tri-med] Re: Are there many of you with surviving male T18 babies?

My son, Morgan, is 8 yrs. old. He has partial trisomy 18q. We knew about =
his situation prenatally also. His trisomy is due to an unbalanced translo=
cation which occured because his father has a balanced translocation. We w=
ere not encouraged one way or the other for carrying or terminating the pre=
gnancy. Our drs. were more than willing to abide by our wishes. Morgan ha=
d esophageal atresia and a t.e. fistula, which were repaired when he was 10=
days old. Other than that he had no other major isssues as an infant. He=
had/has low muscle tone, global developmental delays. He did stand and pl=
ay with toys next to the couch until he was about 5 yrs. old. He will stil=
l stand to help get out of his chair, but he doesn't stand for long periods=
of time as he has gotten so big he just doesn't have the strength for his =
new weight. He does use a walker to move around and he is in a stander for=
a good part of the day (we will soon be getting our new stander, very cool=
Easy Stand 5000, it is a sit to stand stander. Does anyone else have one =
of these? How do you like it?)=20

The last time he had an evaluation for the waiver ( about 2 yrs. ago) he is=
on he was seen as being at the stage of a 9-14 month old. He drinks from =
a cup and can eat orally. He does have 3 words and seems to use them appro=
priately. When he is eating he will say "yum" and something that approxima=
tes "good." He also says "mama" and the other night I heard him say "dad" =
right after Mike closed the door to go to bed. I had to laugh at that. =20

Last weekend a friend of mine was visiting with her 18 mos. old boy. Morga=
n does not like babies or small children, they annoy him. Well, this littl=
e guy picked up a tube of lotion, a flashlight, and a t.v. remote and put t=
hem all on Morgan's tray. Morgan had a toy he was playing with on there al=
ready. He gave Ryan a sideways glance and then took his hand and swiped al=
l 3 of the things off his tray leaving only his own toy there.
