Some of the comments made can be just awful.  Before Keren was born we 
knew there was a potential of chromosomal problem, but waited till her 
birth to get the official diagnosis, so the first few days were pretty 
emotional.  The ped who was on rounds at the hospital (not our ped, but 
one from his practice--hope I never have to deal with him again) came 
in to talk to me and asked about Keren.  When I expressed our 
uncertainties as to her future he said, "Well, you're young.  You'll 
have more kids."  I know in my head he meant well, but I was in a state 
of shock that he would actually say something like that!!!!  I should 
have said something, but I just smiled politely....

I know that's not a medical term, but the effects of the words are the 
same!
