Well late last week Alex finally got his Alpha Smart 3000. He thinks its so
neat :-) So does mum LOL
He spent all weekend playing on it and writing stories, much longer than he has
ever written in long hand, so thats a definite plus. I really hope that it will
improve his fluency of writing and thought as well as letting us see more of
his real potential.
It hasn't been so cool to him this week, because now there is no excuse about
not doing homework :-) His teacher is impressed because she got him to do his
spelling on it on Monday. When she asked him how he went he said "well I got
two wrong, but they are all right now" so the teacher asked him how he managed
that and he told her the truth - he ran spell check through his spelling list
LOL Did someone say this kid was slow?? He's been told - no spell check on the
spelling lists hehehehehehe
One of his aides isn't impressed though. I put in the paperwork and stuff for
an alphasmart for Alex in to the Education Department in March/April this year
from memory - maybe later. The alpha's were out of stock, which I knew about
from the supplier, but he got it finally last week. His aid however requested
one for her son LAST YEAR and he still hasn't gotten it. (His aides son has
muscular dystrophy) I wonder how much of the speed for Alex's was due to me
being such a squeaky wheel earlier this year and going to the press about
equipment?? I know I sure upset a few apple carts - but I make no apology!!!!
His aide was going to go and kick some butt seeing that Alex has his :-))
And Jude, yet another huge thankyou - its so so so easy to just plug the alpha
into the computer and download the whole lot. I showed Alex and even he is able
to do it!!! Independence yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! Certainly wouldn't have been so a few
months ago, thankyou again and again!!
Perhaps parents would enjoy their children more if they stopped to realize that
the film of childhood can never be run through for a second showing.
