[tri-med] Re: Alex is Home

Karen,
Thanks so much for the detailed e-mail about Alex. I'm glad that he's safe
and sound at home! I had some questions about some things I saw in your email
(I hope everyone knows that you're helping to train a future neonatal nurse
practitioner!):
-I was really interested to see that he drops his temperature when he's ill
(?) as opposed to the conventional fever
-What is a LADDS procedure (correcting intestinal malrotation)?
-What is a PCI ("the recovery staff were really concerned that he hadn't
come out of theatre with a PCI...")?
-What is a Shapiro's crisis?
-What is a BAHA ("her daughter is also getting a permanent BAHA. I thought
Alex wasn't a candidtate for a BAHA...")
- I didn't realize that one has to have pacemaker batteries changed (makes
sense now that I think about it : )
It actually wasn't surprising to me that he knew his appendix was the cause
of pain; we know our bodies better than anyone else. Hours to days before my
three major surgeries, I told my surgeons, "it's my appendix/gallbladder/lung
that's burst" but they 'wasted' time with more tests and then found out
during surgery that I was right! : )
Thanks again!

Oh, how the little things
Strengthen my tiny wings,
Help me to take on the world,
When you love me,
There's nothing I wouldn't try,
I might even fly.
