As demanded Mum - a good news post!!!
Alex has finally realised this week that he can read!!!! He has made a huge
jump over this last month, with a lot of things seeming
to come together and his reading has become a lot more fluent and expressive. I
really like that it is becoming expressive because
it shows (to me at least) that he is understanding a lot of what he is reading.
But what has me so excited is that he has realised it himself and is excited.
While he was sick last week I started to read him the first Harry Potter book,
but it was too wordy and not enough pictures for him.
I think he will enjoy me reading it to him after he has seen the movie. But I
got hooked and have been laying on the couch while he
dawdles with dinner reading it, and I went and bought the next one :-))
The other night he raced through his dinner (real meat too!!!) and then went
and grabbed a book, laid down with me and read :-))))
Guess I have to let him see me reading books instead of journal articles more
often LOL.
He was reading a Pokemon book, one of the Ashton Scholastic books VERY
comfortably and only asking me the "hard" words that I would
expect.
For those on the mosaic list I will give you a sample of what he was reading
easily.
"A gray-haired man in a lab coat was on the screen. Ash knew him: It was
Professor Oak, the world's ultimate authority on Pokemon.
His lab was just down the road."
The only words in that paragraph that he had trouble with was authority and
ultimate. Actually they were the only words on that page
that he had trouble with. And there were 6 paragraphs similar.
I am glad that he has realised that he can read. It has certainly done a lot
for his self esteem!!! Not to mention ,making mum feel
like we are getting somewhere, as well as reinforcing that I made the right
decision last year to change schools!!!!! From hell to
heaven in 12 months :-))
Is that enough of a good news post Michelle??
