[tri-med] ADMIN - new Virus doing the rounds

Somebody figured out a way to imbed a link in an HTML formatted message,
such that when you click on it, it executes a JAVA program that exploits
holes in the Microsoft JAVA virtual machine and will mess up the registry
and render your machine useless.

Users should upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.5 service pack 2, or Explorer
6.0.

Virus/OS Update FAQ

First: Windoze users need to be sure they have downloaded all the latest
critical fixes from Microsoft, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, mainly
to put the patches in place to prevent the script viruses from automatically
running and wiping you out.

Second: Anytime you "execute" an email attachment you risk getting a
virus. The friend that just sent you something may have been infected and
is just automatically passing it along to everybody in their address book.

Virus Protection Advice.
 1) Don't run anything with an executable attachment! (Even if a friend
sends me something, I don't execute it. I'll go out and download it
     myself if I want it.)
 2) Get an *evaluation* copy of a virus scanning softare, such as McAfee
Virus scan, http://www.mcafee.com, and Symantec AntiVirus,
     http://www.symantec.com
 3) Don't run anything with an executable attachment!
 4) Even if you know the person that sent it to you, rethink options 1
     and 3 first.
 5) If you still can't resist the urge, make darn good and sure you have
done step two. If you have already done step two, update your DAT
     files every month
 6) If you can't follow any of the above, become proficient at formatting
hard drives and reinstalling all your programs.
