[tri-med] Re: ABR test-Valerie

HI Michelle
The bone conduction is actually the ABR done with bone conduction. It is put
behind the ear so it bypasses any middle ear problems or outer ear(wax etc).
Kelly also has a lot of wax and hair in her ears. I can hardly see in them.
I also wouldn't rely so much on the ABR results as they can be variable.
Neurologic involvement can really play at part also. I would expect
fluctuation. I think parents are the best judge of how their kids are really
responding.
Unfortunately the behavioral test isn't all that interesting for any kids.
Some kids do great and others have a hard time or get bored etc. If you have
a good AUdiologist they can get some type of response.
We are about to try a FM system that can be adjusted as needed for
fluctuations in Kelly's hearing. I don't know if I mentioned she has had a
repaired cleft lip/palate so she is almost always congested. We are using an
FM instead of hearing aids as she doesn't have strong neck/head control yet
and it will prevent feedback etc.
Good luck
Valerie
