Hannah had her hearing test this morning. They gave her the meds to sedate
her a bit and she had just gone to sleep when the woman who was doing the
test came back in the room and either knocked over something or dropped it
and it made a loud metalic noise and woke Hannah up. Now Hannah has two
modes... On and Off. She was definitely back on! They had to give her more
meds to get her to sleep. :)
Results of the test. Good and bad news. Good news: Hannah's ears work fine.
Everything inside the ear seems to be in good working order. Bad news: The
ear works but the signals get muddled when they start up the brain stem.
Bottom line seems to be that, Yes, she can hear, but No, she can't
understand what she is hearing. This explains why she doesn't answer to her
name. She doesn't know it's her name! Unfortunately hearing aids would only
make the garbled noise louder so not really help. Looks like we'll be
learning sign language. At this end that won't be too hard. At her end it
will be more of a challenge.
Any comments or suggestions???
