[tri-med] Re: 5 month old Trisomy 13 baby

My husband is in the military and so we go to a military facility. Not
saying they don't know what they are doing but normally they don't take care
of babys with special needs. But they do want the experience and are more
than willing to listen to my input.
Thank you for the advice!

I am not trying to slam the military or their doctors --but be very cautious
with them. My husband has been in the military for 20 plus years --and they
do not always take the extra measures when they may need to. Now not to say
this is ALL military bases --but the ones that we have been dealing with
mostly.

To give you an example:

When we were stationed in Clovis NM ---Cannon AFB --Maranda ( with trisomy 8
mosaic ) --well Maranda one evening had been throwing up --when I call the
peds clinic in the morning --I talked with a doctor --I explained she was
throwing up something dark -and it smelled like iron --she had no fever
--and no other symptoms --other than mostly listless ---laying around only.
Well that military dr told me to wait until evening and if she was doing
same ---bring her in --well that evening --still as bad --so when hubby got
home we took her to the base ER ---when we got there they called in peds dr
---this was a different one than I had spoke with in the morning --he asked
WHY I had not brought her in earlier --I told him complete story ---well
they ended up giving her 3 blood transfusions --and that dr riding in
ambulance to take her immediately to hospital in Lubbock TX --Maranda ending
up having a bleeding something ulcer --and had literally --thrown up -most
of her blood in her body ---they had to go in and coterie the ulcer --well
when Maranda's chart was pulled that dr I talked to that morning had written
---Panicky mother called in reference to daughter ---I had also told this dr
in the morning call ---ALL about Maranda and her medical issues. So
needless to say --I DO NOT TRUST military doctors --anything major ---I am
going to a civilian doctor.

Now this is just my opinion --and I hope I do not offend anyone ---I know
not ALL military doctors are this way --but this is NOT the only BAD
experience ---my daughter who died from heart complications did not always
get the best care when the military was involved.
