You could probably just cut and paste for Alex with this. Alex's sats and 
heart rate decrease dramatically when he lies on his left side. Why no-one 
can say with any certainty but one thought is that his vagal nerve is 
running a different course to normal and when he lies on his left side body 
organs are compressing the nerve?

Bi-PAP compensates because it covers both central and obstructive apneas. 
But primarily, no matter what the reason we have primarily "learnt" to 
monitor and toss him off his side when it happens. I just cant wait till 
someone develops a machine that not only monitors but gives him a shake and 
rolls him over for me :-) putting the oxygen or Bi-PAP on and fixing clogged 
feeding pumps as well would be a total bonus :-))))
