Soleah (and many other babies) have the same difficulties. For Soleah, at 1-2
days, they ended up putting an umbilical line in her to get faster iv fluids.
They did give her TPN (?)(another nutritional fluid) but I have heard mixed
thoughts on that. Her blood sugar dropped very low and reportedly caused a
seizure so they were careful about keeping her sugar up. She did also require
oxygen for a long time (until after her heart surgery) but then her sats kept
up fine. I think as Karen said, these kids are globally affected in growth and
development--some things that just "kick in" on a typical kiddo take a while
longer in a trisomy baby. Many times, it's a juggling act and a matter of
trial and error--encourage the doctors who are helping you all that this is
typical.
We're praying for Annie!

Subject: urgent: O2 stats/ sugar levels
Please, we need your help regarding uncovering clues as to why our 5
day old trisomy 13 is having difficulty. O2 stats are dropping slowly
and having trouble with low sugar levels. She doesnt respond to
increases in sugar (IV and increase in feeding) but does respond to
blow by oxygen to increase saturation. Doctors cant see a reason for
her heart to respond in this way. Lung X-Ray looks a little bit
"funny". In anybody's experience does this trisomy condition affect
these things? We would greatly appreciate any experience you could
share.
