Hey guys,
I was trying to get my Zoom Floppy up and running with OpenCBM last night on
Windows 10 64 bit.
Ugh.
Since WIndows 8.x, unsigned hardware drivers are really frowned upon. The set
that was designed for the Zoom Floppy (or XUM1541 if you will) is just that.
Unsigned. Or at least the older version is.
There is new development going on for the newer OS versions (Win/OSX/Linux),
and from one message board thread, it looks like one or more versions of a beta
driver have digital signatures, but they have an expiration date on them.
SO... Since I haven't figured out how to download those newer drivers from
source areas (and compile of course), I was left with figuring out how to get
the existing 'in market' USB driver up and running under Win 10 64 bit. Found

feature. They'll only load drivers that have been signed by Microsoft. To

I chose the second option (SHIFT + Restart and modifying Startup option),
because the first didn't work the way I'd hoped.
The Restart with the startup option to disable the requirement for digital
signatures worked! Drive was installed, seen and accessed for the software.
Now... please note: You're opening a security hole this way for your machine.
How exploitable that is, I don't know. This is part of the reason MS wants
drivers to have the signatures. I'm sure someone will reply with other reasons,
but let's just take this one at face value.
For me, this is my hacking around laptop, so I'm not overly concerned. No
precious data on board, etc.
In the meantime, I'm going to talk with the developers who are building the new
version of OpenCBM to find out where things are at, and possibly an easier way
for people to try out the new beta versions. No commit from me, but I'm curious
to try it out myself.
