EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT:
ICELANDIC PEACE ACTIVIST SITE IS
TAKEN DOWN BY GOVERNMENT


Last week we printed this story:

Peace 2000 leader arrested and imprisoned & our computers confiscated in
Iceland!

I checked and found it to be true that (1) he is a genuine peace activist
and (2) that the Icelandic governemnt arrested him.

I do not know him, but I have heard from two offcial pece groups sources who
I trust
that the story is true.

It is not clear why, but it seems they are trying to silence criticism that
Icelandic
airline companies are potential terrorist targets because they have agreed
to carry
U.S. and NATO military equipment.

Just now I heard from a Danish activist the following:


"Hi Poul
I´m writing in both danish and english, in order to make sure that 
you´ll
understand me.
The story about is unfortunately entirely true.
The latest I´ve learned, is that the government has shut down the
peacemovement´s website www.peace2000.org.

It´s really terrible, I´m trying to get the attention of the 
media here in
Denmark, but it´s rather difficult, I hope you can do something in your
country. If you like, you can send a mail to Astthor Magnussons personal
e-mail,
which is, thormag@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, then you´ll get an update.
"

Everyone:

I suggest you write to the following address to protest the arrest of
Astthor Magnusson (who once ran for president of Iceland). Please
read the article from last week. your messages
will be will be sent to the Icelandic government.

Ask them why they arrested Astthor Magnusson,
why they shut down his website, and if they consider
themselves a democratic country.  Ask that they send you an
answer, and if you get a reply, let us know.

Also, send Astthor Magnusson a personal e-mail at
 thormag@xxxxxxxxxxxxx to send him good wishes
(he should be out of jailnow) and ask him what is happening.
