Alberto Fujimori: Why is Japan protecting this man?

When the MRTA rebels took over the Japanese Ambassador's residency in Lima 
during a lavish party to celebrate the Emperor's birthday, almost the entire 
Japanese nation were in no doubt that what was happening was an act of 
terrorism against their country. At that time, I was working in Lima for 
Asahi Shimbun -- a large Tokyo daily. The news and information flowing from 
Peru through the Japanese media was being carefully 'moderated' to take the 
'sensitivity' of the topic into consideration.......Almost the entire 
Japanese nation were in no doubt that what was happening was an act of 
terrorism against their country. At that time, I was working in Lima for 
Asahi Shimbun -- a large Tokyo daily. The news and information flowing from 
Peru through the Japanese media was being carefully 'moderated' to take the 
'sensitivity' of the topic into consideration [but] Fujimori had no interest 
in solving the problem. He suppressed the information from our interview with 
MRTA where they declared that all they wanted was to improve conditions of 
the poor and to be legalized as a political opposition party. He directed the 
kidnapping of several men from the rescue brigade of the highest mine in the 
world -- Cerro de Pasqua -- and ordered them to dig tunnels under the 
Japanese compound. In April 1997, he ordered an attack which led to killing 
of all the MRTA members, including a pregnant girl who was shot at point 
blank range while begging for mercy......

ELECTIONS IN THE U.S
The most progressive of the candidates has all been ignored by the media. No 
surprise. Read his call to get out of Iraq: Candidate Kucinich: Bring the 
Troops Home Now!. Meanwhile, so-called "peace" candidate Clark, who was in 
charge of U.S. atrocities in Kosovo, shows why it is foolish to believe 
Democrats are substantially different from Republicans, despite the 
Reprublicans coming across as rabid and Neanderathal in Lesser of Two Evils 
is Still Evil: Wesley Clark would use Depleted Uranium and Cluster Bombs. As 
to Kerry, it looks as if he still can't decide whether he wants to come

Rightists in Japan seek to present the Yasukuni debate in terms of what a 
normal nation does. But is Yasukuni the model for what is normal? Yasukuni: 
Seek a New Way to Remeber the War Dead. Meanwhile, those who would change the 
Constitution on the grounds that it was imposed on Japan (not entirely 
true--there was a very strong anti-war contribution from Japanese activists) 
fail to tell us why they don't mind helping the U.S. kill people in Iraq and

Vote Against Gentically Modified Beer/GM Natto (from Akiko in Sweden, from 
International Green Forum Japan) In Sweden, a small beer company has made an 
agreement with Monsanto to launch a new beer, Kenth, produced with Monsanto's 
GM corn (Bt-maize - MON810) from April 1 this year with GMO labelling on. The 
beer company has gotten a guarantee from Monsanto that if nobody is 
interested in this beer, the company will be able to get out from this 
Monsanto's project. This story remains me of the Monsanto's Roundup Ready soy 
Natto project - a small company is trying to sell Natto (fermented soybeans) 
made of Monsanto's herbicide resistant soybeans through internet - in Japan. 
How about in your country? Watch out, small companies are the target of 
Monsanto. At the moment, a Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet, is asking people 
to vote whether you want to drink this GM beer or not. You can also go to
