Japan's "leaders" are making preparations to involve
this country in new military adventures under the
cover of "defense".  It should be no surprise to those
who have followed the ruling party since its early days
when unrepentant rightists sought to maintain the
Imperial system and its subjugation of former Korean
and Chinese colonial subjects.  It has always been 
a war party, a party that has promoted the Meiji period's
racist "tan 'itsu minzuku kokka', the myth of racial
purity which justified colonization and plunged the nation
into a war which killed millions of Japanese and non Japanese. 

Current laws discriminating against Japan-born "foreigners" can
be traced to the LDP and its nationalistic philosophy, as can
treatment of immigrants and asylum seekers. And now these same
cockroaches who run the country are moving closer to the U.S.
war party (Republicans and Democrats both) who seek world domination
and manipulate friendly countries like Japan into paying for and 
otherwise backing their military opportunism.

The "war against terror" has terrorized many more than those who
became victims on Sept 11.  And now the U.S., a nation 
which terrorized hundreds of thousands at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, 
has enlisted Japan in its quest to make war making acceptable
again as a sport of civilized nations. Just last week, Japan's
Chief Cabinet Secretary suggested Japan would be joining the nuclear
weapons club.  Despite his denials, many believe that is just what Japan
is doing.  The dead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are stirring in their
graves at such an obscene reality.

----->Two on the Midddle East
One is a story of how the Israeli occupation keeps
people from getting to hospitals because they happen to
be Palestinian. I get emails and web links sent to me
telling me how humane the Israeli military is, but just because
people refuse to see the other side doesn't mean that cruelty and
terror are absent from the treatment Israel gives to those 
forced to live under occupation.  Whether we see it or not,
it is happening.  Thankfully there are Palestinian Arabs,
Jews, and others working to stop it.

There are also those who insist on simplifying the equaltion,
who blame it all on "the Jews".  In my own essay, in which
I speak as someone opposed to the babarity of Israels treatment
of the Palestinians who also opposes attempts to lay the blame
on Zionism or Judaism because such attempts are ill informed,
because they actually drive away potential allies in the fight
against the occupation, and because the situation is infinitely more
complex--there are even people who call themselves Zionists who refuse
to fight.   My conclusion is that we who call ourselves progressive 
must be careful not to become agents of the opporessors by 
attacking one another or by using the same racist tactics we claim
to oppose.
