and in Japan there is a candy called "ChocoBalls"

Well, it sounds more interesting in Japanese,

aides, Donald Rumsfeld, the Defense Secretary, said he wanted to "hit"

had anything to do with the attacks on New York and Washington. "Go
massive," the notes quote Rumsfeld as saying. "Sweep it all up. Things
related and not."

been issued, now condones the bombing of a Japanese government official:
Ishihara Terrorist.

at the Cancum WTO protests: Korean Farmer Who Killed Himself Speaks Out
Against WTO . 

-Here in Tokyo, 100 police were said to have attacked a demonstration
against the WTO and World Bank by 10 protestors, assaulting and
arresting one one: 不当 逮捕弾劾・明日の抗議行動にご参加 (IMF Demo
Arrest in Tokyo).

Still committed to its war drive in Iraq, Washington stands more
isolated 
than ever. Its trade aims were defeated at the World Trade Organization
in Cancun. It faces international outrage following its veto of the
mildly-worded Security Council resolution challenging Israel's threat to
expel or assassinate Yasir Arafat. In response, the General Assembly
overwhelming passed a resolution virtually identical to that Washington
vetoed in the Council.

(6) THE GENDER ORDER OF THINGS (Lydia Sargeant)
The women’s movement changed history, reaching into every home, school,
business, and workplace. But it wasn’t able to translate political
consciousness into concrete revolutionary social change. It criticized
institutionalized sexism, but left sexist institutions in place. It
challenged institutions, criticized them as patriarchal and undemocratic,
and then women proceeded to join them. It left the institutions in place
so that its victories could and often did disappear with the pounding of
a gavel in a courtroom.

Toys teach us a lot about how U.S. culture paves the way for Empire.
Consider the forthcoming action figure from KB Toys -- nothing less than
the President of the United States in miniature. For $39.99 you, too,
can be the proud owner of a 12-inch "fully poseable figure," oxygen mask
and survival vest included. Batteries are not applicable, we learn, so
regretfully we must assume that it has not been programmed to say,
"Bring it on" while essentially ducking for cover to keep his own
"realistic head" out of harm's way.

Coincidentally, the toy's release date is set for a few days after 9-11.
