Welcome to the first issue of TokyoProgressive's
ChocoPaul news for September 2003. Below you will
find the most recent articles that are available
on the TokyoProgressive website. In addition,
we would like to tell you about some of the things
NOT on our website but on IndyMedia Japan.

But first, a few announcements/requests:

1) From reader Bronwyn Streader (Video art)

Hello my name is Bronwyn, I'm a PhD candidate who has done most of my
project in Tokyo. It is a creative project with a series of short stories.
I plan to incorporate film or video art and images and sound for a web
presentation. I was wondering if you knew any alternative artists for a
collaborative project. The stories are first person narratives
interested in consumerism, enjo kosai, ketai culture, alcoholism
and sexual repression. Thanks for your time.

Write Bronwyn at: bronwyn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

2) From Keith McHenry of Food Not Bombs (FNB)

Keith wants to know if there are any FNB groups in Japan, or people
who are interested in perhaps starting one. Likewise, you may be doing
something very similar. In any case, contact Keith at
foodnotbombs@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dr. John Bernhardt will be giving two free lectures, conducting
discussions and showing films on September 11 and 18, both Thursdays.
The September 11 film is Missing, which deals with the U.S. (CIA, Henry
Kissinger) supported coup by Augusto Pinochet in Chile, exactly 30
years prior to the World Trade Center attacks. The film deals with real
incidents that occurred during the U.S. supported acts of terrorism
that resulted in the deaths and diappearances of thousands of people.
The lecture starts at 7 PM, followed by the screening of the movie at
7;30, and a discussion from 9:30 to 10 PM. Film is in English with
Japanese subtitles.

The second film, on September 18 is the Egyptian comedy "Terrorism and
Kebab", providing a glimpse into contemporary Egyptian culture and
society and helping us understand the perspectives on terrorism of
people in the Middle East. The lecture is from 7 PM, with the film
being shown from 7:45 to 9:30 and a discussion from 9:30 to 10. Film is
 in Arabic with English subtitles.

The location for both events is the International Education Center,
1-21 Yotsuya, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. The school is about a 2 minute walk
from the Yotsuya railway station. Telephone the school for directions
at (03) 3359-9621. Dr. Bernhardt can also be reached at this number.
