(2) Anti-War
=20
(02-23) 16:08 PST SAN FRANCISCO (AP) --
Nearly 1,000 anti-war protesters marched Saturday in San Francisco,
chanting that the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan and campaign
against terrorism are inhumane and an excuse to erode civil liberties.
=20
The march was organized by the Bay Area Antiwar Coalition, which
organizers said represents 60 activist groups in Northern California.
"We should solve the problems of this country instead of bombing
innocent people around the world," said one organizer, Carol Seligman.
Protesters carried placards that read "War is Terror," "Books not
Bombs" and "Schools Not Jails."
Stop the War! March on Washington DC April 20th

The Others, by Howard Zinn
True, there are those in Washington and around the country who would
not be moved, who are eager--like their counterparts elsewhere in the
world--to kill for some cause. But most Americans would begin to
understand that we have been waging a war on ordinary men, women and
children. And that these human beings have died because they happened
to live in Afghan villages in the vicinity of vaguely defined "military
targets," and that the bombing that destroyed their lives is in no way
a war on terrorism, because it has no chance of ending terrorism and
is itself a form of terrorism.=20

Mashhood Rizvi Queries Michael Albert on the Mainstream media
Information and entertainment is a means to the end of profit
via the sale of people with disposable income to corporations=20
who are also trying to profit. Truth, aesthetics, news, wisdom
- these are all secondary matters, at most -- and this is
so even when information is the actual product that is sold, as well.

Pentagon Propaganda Plan Is Undemocratic, Possibly Illegal=20
Tarnished credibility may be the least of the problems created by the
OSI's new plan to manipulate media-- the plan may compromise the free
flow of information that democracy relies on. The government is barred
by law from propagandizing within the U.S., but the OSI's new plan will
likely lead to disinformation planted in a foreign news report being
picked up by U.S. news outlets. The war in Afghanistan has shown that
the 24-hour news cycle, combined with cuts in the foreign news budgets
across the U.S., make overseas outlets like Al-Jazeera and Reuters key
resources for U.S. reporters.=20

Israel Must End the Occupation By Robert Jensen
Posted Tuesday, February 26, 2002 by paul arenson=20
Why has the number of Israeli settlers
living in the West Bank and Gaza almost doubled since the Oslo peace
process began nearly a decade ago? Given that those settlements are one
of the most serious obstacles to a peaceful solution, why would the
Israeli government -- during a so-called peace process -- expand
settlements in territory it illegally occupies?

(7) Alternatives to the bankruptcy of Corporate Globalization=20
by Vandana Shiva World Social Forum, 2002=20
Deregulated commerce and corporate rule was offered as the alternative
to the centralised bureaucratic control under communist regimes and
state dominated economies. Markets were offered as an alternative to
states for regulating our lives, not just our economies. As the
globalisation project has unfolded, it has exposed its bankruptcy at
the philosophical, political, ecological and economic levels.
The bankruptcy of the dominant world order is leading to social,
ecological, political and economic non-sustainability, with societies,
ecosystems, and economies disintegrating and breaking down...

(9) Fascism in Italy
Old Italy, new facism by IGNACIO RAMONET
Silvio Berlusconi, already allied to the post-fascists of the National
Alliance and the xenophobes of the Northern League, emerged to win his
first elections, becoming prime minister from May to December 1994. His
first premiership came to an abrupt end, but that did not discourage
him. Although he too was accused of financial irregularities, dubious
dealings and graft, factors combined to enable his comeback in May 2001.
