THU 07 APR 2011
South Holston River Weir Dams, Sullivan Co., TN
D. Holt

A short walk along the shale hillsides behind Osceola Island around 6 pm
yielded a few butterflies and wildflowers.

Zebra Swallowtail - 1
West Virginia White - 15
Falcate Orangetip - 5

This site has some Pawpaw, Redbud, Carolina Vetch, a lot of Smooth Rockcress,
Golden and Round-leaved Ragworts, tons of toothworts...all potential butterfly
hostplants. There are lots of other wildflowers, too. Today I found an Early
or Wister's Coralroot Orchid, Corallorhiza wisteriana, the first time I have
seen it at this site.
