I wasn't expecting much today because it was mostly cloudy and wasn't all that
warm. Everything listed below was seen while the temps were still in the 50's.

Spotted by Ken Childs on 4/3/09

Silver-spotted Skipper
Pearl Crescent (photo)
Red-spotted Purple
Painted Lady (photo)
I also saw my first 3 Snowberry Clearwings of the year today.

I was surprised to see a Red-spotted Purple this early in the season. I was
even more surprised when it did the following. I saw it on the grass but it
took off before I could get a shot. It lazily flew around and slowly gained
altitude. I was hoping it would land again so I kept watching it but it
continued to slowly fly up and it finally landed in the top of an 80 foot tall
pine.
