I forgot to put Carolina Satyr on the list. Before the recent rains, they were very common. Now that the rains have stopped, they've almost completely disappeared. I saw the Ocola again today and another one in Henderson. The library there has a nice patch of purple asters as part of their landscaping and they were full of 'flies. There's a dayflying moth that is all over right now. They're feeding on just about any flower with a count of 5 to 15 at a time on my Lantana bush. I see them every year but never in numbers like I'm seeing now. Is anyone else seeing these? http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/kjchilds/IMG_0706.jpg Ken Childs Henderson, TN Chester County http://www.finishflagfarms.com --- On Tue, 9/29/09, kjchilds <kjchilds@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > From: kjchilds <kjchilds@xxxxxxxxx> > Subject: [TN-Butterflies] FOY for Chester County > To: "TN Butterflies" <TN-Butterflies@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Date: Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 3:00 PM > 9/29/09 > Ocola Skipper (no photo) seen feeding on Mistweed. > > The white asters are in full bloom so there are fewer > 'flies near the house feeding on the Lantana. > Checkered-Skippers should be here very soon. > > Other species seen today: > Orange Sulphur - big increase in numbers today. > Cloudless Sulphur > Little Yellow > Sleepy Orange > Gray Hairstreak > Red-banded Hairstreak - many more than I've seen in the > past. > Eastern Tailed-Blue > American Snout > Variegated Fritillary > Pearl Crescent > Question Mark > American Lady > Painted Lady - first one I've seen in a long time. > Common Buckeye > Red-spotted Purple > Viceroy > Monarch > Silver-spotted Skipper > Dun Skipper - all old and worn. > Clouded Skipper > Least Skipper > Fiery Skipper > Sachem - all old and worn. > > Ken Childs > Henderson, TN > Chester County > > http://www.finishflagfarms.com > > > > The FAQ can be found by logging in at > //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi/l=tn-butterflies > > Please report any abuse or questions about this list to kjchilds@xxxxxxxxx > > Users can unsubscribe from this list by sending an email to > tn-butterflies-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. > > The FAQ can be found by logging in at //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi/l=tn-butterflies Please report any abuse or questions about this list to kjchilds@xxxxxxxxx Users can unsubscribe from this list by sending an email to tn-butterflies-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field.
