Hi all,Spent a few hours Saturday touring the backroads of northern Decatur
County checking out all the flowering Eupatoriums. There wasn't too much on
the Eups, but the White Crownbeard (Verbesina virginica) was really acting as a
butterfly magnet as was Rosinweed (Silphium asteriscus). There was quite a bit
of Ironweed just begining to bloom as well, but nothing seemed to be interested
in it, too. The most noteworthy find was a nice White-M Hairstreak. I usually
only see this species in late August/early September, but it also has a spring
brood. There were good numbers of Red-banded Hairstreaks and surprisingly,
Juniper Hairstreaks, which I rarely see at this time of year. It was nice to
see the Carolina Satyrs, the first I've seen since the flooding this spring.
