Hello,
I just re-joined this list to let members be aware that I am posting =
updates
regarding Operation Migration's arrival at Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge =
with
the ultralight-led whooping cranes. Last year, I went out to watch the
landing, and stood in the cold with many others at the viewing site for
several hours with no information about their landing time. They had =
landed
prior to our arrival and we had no way to know that, so we waited in =
vain.

I contacted the folks in the OM office and asked if I could be a =
volunteer
contact point this year when they arrive. They have been very kind to =
work
with me and I am in contact with the ground crew coordinator by cell =
phone.=20

I am posting the information they give to me on my business website
http://www.bluemooncruises.org/. This site is new as of yesterday and =
under
development - we will be offering boat cruises to Hiwassee Island =
starting
in January 2007, so we got this page up this week so that we can post =
the
whooping crane info for interested birders.

I spoke with the OM person this morning because their field journal =
online
says they are flying today. She said they took off from Adair Co, =
Kentucky
this morning and are hoping to fly all the way to Cumberland County. She
said the birds were not cooperating (we all have those kind of =
mornings!),
so she was not sure they would make it all the way. She is waiting a =
call
from the pilots to find out where they land and will call me back later
today.
=20
If they make it to Cumberland County today, they will be scheduled to =
fly to
Hiwassee tomorrow (Thursday) morning. If you are interested in getting =
out
to the viewing station for the landing, I will post the status tomorrow
morning, hopefully about 7 AM. The OM contact will call me as soon as =
they
decide to fly - I will just have time to post before getting in the car =
to
go there. I am in Chattanooga, so it takes me about 45 minutes to get =
out to
the site.

If you have questions, just post here and I will answer.
thanks,
Joellen Dickey
