[TN-Bird] proud parents

4/28, UT, Knox County

I've been watching a mockingbird nest on UT campus for the past couple
of weeks, ever since I saw Mama and Papa building it out of twigs.
It's in a tree (sorry, I don't know its type) on the north side of the
Clarence Brown theatre. Mama has been dutifully incubating each time I
looked. Today at noon I saw Mama and Papa chase off another
mockingbird, leaving the next exposed just in time for me to get a
look. Sure enough, there was a crying hatchling--big eyes, fuzzy gray
head, wide mouth open. I couldn't see far into the nest (and I was
already standing on top of the brick divider) so I couldn't tell if
there were other siblings. I thought I saw a second one, but I can't
be sure.
