[TN-Bird] notes on Greeneville count

The conditions for the Greeneville Fall count Saturday were unusual, with
flooding near the Nolichucky River. Still, I birded with my brother Jim Holt
at
Davy Crockett Lake. The woodland trails where we normally walk there were
mostly under water, but around the edges we were able to find a few neat birds.

One migrant flock turned up a Blue-winged Warbler and a Canada Warbler.

The most unusual bird of the day, though was on a nest, about ten feet up in
a tree. I was on a slope so the nest was at eye level with me, and appeared
to be about a foot across and lined on the inside with a large amount of light
gray fur. I was puzzled, until I spied a long, naked tail hanging down the
side of the nest, and finally recognized the form of a sleeping opossum. Its
funny how difficult they are to recognize when they aren't squashed on the road.
