Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN 2010 April 6 7:15-9:25 am mostly clear, a bit windy After watching the classic college basketball final until past my bedtime, I managed to arise early enough Tuesday morning to visit Radnor Lake for a nice morning walk. Birders Kevin Bowden and Dee Hamilton had the same idea, so we walked together from the West Parking lot to Long Bridge, where Kevin and I retraced our steps and Dee headed around to lake to find the really good birds. It was a wonderful morning with a varied group of migrants. Raptors were about. In addition to the ususal RED-TAILED and COOPER's HAWKs, we found an OSPREY flying over the lake, a NORTHERN HARRIER flyby, and a BROAD-WINGED HAWK that briefly interacted with one of the 2 RED-TAILEDs. Warblers were represented by a varied (plumage) assortment of YELLOW-RUMPEDs. There were also 2 LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSHes on territory, and single singing N. PARULA, YELLOW-THROATED, and PALM WARBLERs gave us good looks. We had a abundance of RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETs and a single WHITE-EYED VIREO. Gnatcatchers were in abundance, making themselves at home, while a pair of N. ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWs and a pair of CHIMNEY SWIFTs soared over the lake.
