[TN-Bird] more Yellow-crowned Night-Herons at Kingsport...and it isn't even dark yet!

I was quite interested to read Wallace's note about the active Night-Heron nest
which Marion Finucane found near Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport. As I was
out digiscoping on Sunday along Reedy Creek ( a few miles upstream from
Marion's nest) I happened to notice a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron fly over out
of the corner of my eye as I was looking at the camera screen trying to coax
some Red-winged Blackbirds to sit still long enough for me to get a picture. I
remember thinking this was kindof unusual as I don't see very many of these
birds around Kingsport (more Black-crowned). I was going to report this on the
list, but it slipped my mind until I read Wallace's note.

Today I was back in the same area to check on a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks
which I watched building a nest along the greenbelt in February. I hadn't seen
or heard them for a while, so I wanted to check the nest and see what was going
on. Imagine my surprise when I looked up at the nest and saw a pair of
Yellow-crowned Night-Herons where I expected my Red-shouldered's to be! Looked
around some more and saw another pair sitting on another nest nearby. I ran
and got the scope and camera and you can find the pictures at the usual place
http://photos.yahoo.com/phoxinus02 in the birds folder.

To find the area coming from Bristol on 11W. Just come on into town passing
Lowe's on West Stone Drive. The second red light after lows is at American
Way. Take a left onto American Way and pass Ramada Inn on your left. Just
follow American Way until it dead ends in a parking area. Park here and you
will see a graveled access road with a wire "gate" at the intersection with the
greenbelt. Turn left and go a short way until you see a bench on your right.
Look around on your left over Reedy creek (right beside the trail) up in the
sycamores and you will easily spot the small stick nests and probably the birds
will be sitting on or beside them. Their was a pair at each of two nests.

My main question now is how many more nests are their between this one and the
one Marion found? And how many upstream from the two I found? Looks like some
walking is in order.

Rick
