A few interesting bird notes from the last few days...
I had a few interesting birds yesterday (4/28) just while traveling around
and out in the yard...
A lone Osprey was seen flying over I-40 near exit 76 just west of Jackson
in Madison County. Last night I had my FOS Common Nighthawk flying over
Wal-Mart in Humboldt in Gibson County. And last night I had a Barn Owl fly
across the road in front of me and land in an old grain gin building at
Gibson Wells in Gibson County.
At my house in the Mount Orange community west of Trenton in Gibson County
there has been lots of activity....
I've still got numerous White-crowned and White-throated Sparrows coming to
the feeders. Indigo Buntings have been sporadic visitors amongst the
hordes of Goldfinches at the feeders in the last week. Chickadees and
Bluebirds are busy feeding young and the House Finches have started their
annual nest in the hanging basket fern on the front porch. A male Blue
Grosbeak has been singing away for the last several days. Yellow-rumps have
been numerous and very noisy lately. A single Black-throated Green Warbler
was heard on Sunday. Horned Larks are busy doing their impressive towering
courtship flights. Still awaiting the first Dickcissels and
Chuck-will's-Widow.
Where I work at the Industrial Park in Jackson, the Warbling Vireo has
returned to his favorite oak tree and an Eastern Phoebe has been checking
out possible nesting spots near the rear of the building.
Good birding,
Mark Greene
