Out this morning, Wed. 28 May, with Alex Brown from Boulder,
Colorado. The weather was excellent, sunny and warming up.
On Monday we only heard MOURNING WARBLERs and Alex wanted
a life sighting, so we returned today. This time we got
much more cooperation. We saw 2 MOURNINGs at willow point,
next to the lake across from the Ranger house at the dam.
A male an female gave us great looks as they foraged in
the willow at eye level. The we were triply blessed by a
male MOURNING who sang just before the Artist and Teacher
bench along the Lake Trail. We waited for a couple minutes
and sure enough, he obliged by giving us excellent looks
as he foraged through some dead bush honeysuckle branches.
We also got to hear and see a male CANADA WARBLER near
long bridge, our second migrating warbler for the day.
Although there were NO CONNECTICUTs to be found, Alex is
headed back to Colorado a happy birder.
