[TN-Bird] daytime nightjar (?) and common loon-Knoxville

Yesterday afternoon, about 1pm, I observed what appeared to be a common
nighthawk off Lyons Bend Rd near Duncan boatdock in west Knoxville. I did
not have my binoculars, but it was close enough and hard to mistake the
markings as it flapped its boomerang-like, white-patched wings many times,
then perched on a tree branch. It seemed a little large, about 12" and it is
late for these birds to still be here. Maybe there are other late sightings
for this species?

A couple hours later, boating upriver on Fort Loudoun reservoir, I saw a
common loon near Keller Bend, off Mariners Point across from Louisville
Landing Park.

Bird On!
