[TN-Bird] chickadee experience

Mid-afternoon yesterday provided an interesting sight. Icicles are hanging
from my roof above my bird feeders. A chickadee flew in and perched upside
down on an icicle and began sipping the drip from the thawing icicle. After
it quenched its thirst, it perched on one of the steel supports for one of
the feeders. Momentarily. it's little feet stuck to the steel from which it
had a wee bit of trouble extracting itself. At one point, I thought I would
have to go out and "save" the little critter, but it managed to take care of
its own situation, flew quickly to get a sunflower seed then off to its
favorite tree to crack and eat it.

A chipping sparrow and a white crowned sparrow reappeared to feed just as
snow started again this afternoon, and, finally, one white throated sparrow
joined the crowd of birds on my deck. A hawk flew through the yard a little
while ago. It was low and under the trees. It flew up over the neighbors
treeless back yard to a tree in their front yard where it must have perched
out of my sight. Light was not conducive to seeing what it was, but I
suspect maybe peregrine as they are fairly frequent here. It was probably
surveying the smorgasbord of birds that my smorgasbord for the birds might
provide for it.

Usually, I get a pair of towhees from the shrubbery down near the interstate,
but none this time. Maybe that family has died out or moved on. I did hear
them last spring.
