[TN-Bird] birding Ormond Beach, Fla..area

I will be at Ormond Beach, Fla. the first week of November--1st to 8th and
would appreciate if anyone could give me information about birding that
area, or contact person that could help.

Our Woods Reservoir waterfowl birding has been somewhat curtailed since
9-11. The dam is closed to traffic for about a quarter of a mile on each
side, and inside the site is inaccessible to visitors, so we can't get into
the retention pond, etc.;however, Don Davidson, and John Lamb are employees
of AEDC and go there when they have time.

I have woods and creek behind my house here in Tullahoma, and have a male
and female Great Horned Owl, and the young one calling from the pines in my
yard and across the street about 4:30AM two or three times in the past week.
( the young has that "screechy" call that gets your attention in a hurry.)
Several years ago I spent about a week roaming the back woods because a
neighbor called and said she was hearing a weird sound out back of her
house---finally taped thirty minutes of it, sent it to Michael Bierly, and
got a confirmation of young Great Horned Owl. They have been breeding in
the back woods for at least 20 years that I have kept records. In the
daytime I can usually find them when the crows gang up with their diving and
fussing sounds.

The Tennessee Warblers were still coming through this past week, and I had
an immature Black-throated Blue the first of the week. This was on
Hurricane Creek Rd, by the bridge over the rushing creek. These are very
rare for us in migration--usually in the fall--but we do get one
occasionally in the Cumberland Springs Wildlife Refuge, and Hurricane Creek
area. They started logging the Cumberland Springs area about four or five
years ago, and , well, there goes the neighborhood. The Barred Owl breeds
there, but it's "hangin in there"--saw it this year.

--didn't mean to be so long-winded, but don't log in too often, so perhaps I
can get forgiveness for this one.
