[TN-Bird] Word of Caution on YB LOON

Mike and I had a bird out from Granny's that was in molt. It had a very
different look with a brownish cast to head and two very obvious ear spots as
noted
on YB Loons. In the scope it was an obvious Common Loon but the head color
and ear spots sure gave it a strange appearance in binocs. I have never seen
perfect ear spots on a Common Loon and certainly not symmetrical on both sides
of
the head. We studied the bird for quite a while but Common it was. These
loons are in various stages of head and body molt making for some interesting
plumage's to study.
Since this area is huge, any one sighting the bird should post the time and
place plus what the bird was doing, feeding, sleeping or moving and in what
direction so maybe a pattern will emerge just as it did with the Sage Thrasher
and thus making it a lot easier to find this bird after traveling to this
remote
birding heaven;o)
