March 20&30, 2008
Signal Mountain (Sequatchie County) near Chattanooga
At my feeders here on Walden Ridge, the winter birds are hanging on and the
Spring Migrants come any way.
Dark-eyed Junco feed shoulder to shoulder with newly arrived Chipping Sparrow
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker still home-stead the suet feeder
A Brown Creeper is still present
Purple Finch do battle with feisty American Goldfinch for sunflower seed
Red-br Nuthatch pick there moment to jet in grab a seed or peanut and vanish
Pine siskin are still fattening up for their trip north
A Ruby-crowned Kinglet had discovered the suet feeder, maybe from watching the
Pine Warblers
Despite the birds I see at my feeders, I know spring is here. A Louisiana
Waterthrush is announcing his presence to all; that he had laid claim to the
stretch of creek at the bottom of the holler.
A Blue-gray Gnatcatcher made it presence known with its nasal call yesterday.
And wife told me she saw a Blue-headed Vireo as she walked up the driveway last
week.
