[TN-Bird] Windbird Report

March 27-28, 2003
Shelby Co. TN

I spent about an hour each day between jobs and appointments looking for
movements and numbers. On Thursday I stopped at Shelby Farms and searched my
regular fields where I usually find Upland Sandpipers at this time. The
problem is that these fields had been mown, plowed and cut over last fall and
the traditional vegetation is just not there. I finally found three birds
south of these fields feeding along an embankment. At one wet area I counted
1 Greater Yellowlegs, 4 Lesser Yellowlegs, 5 Least Sandpipers, 217 Pectoral
Sandpipers and 19 Wilson's Snipe.

At Ensley today I found 12 Black-necked Stilts scattered along with 21 Lesser
Yellowlegs and 34 Pectoral Sandpiper on a quick run through.

Good Birding!!!
