At 9:30 this morning the 2 adult Whooping Canes were still present at Bell's
Bend at the site previously reported in north-western Davidson County. See
directions provided by Frank Fekel 12/18. They were feeding in a harvested sod
field aprox. 250 yards from the road. A large group of Canada Geese was in
the closer field.
Highlights of a quick tour of Percy Priest Lake in the afternoon:
At Couchville Lake, Long Hunter State Park, Davidson County:
Hooded Mergansers - 40+
Northern Shovelers - 25+
Bryant Grove, Rutherford County:
Common Loons - 12 from one vantage point, several calling
Lamar Hill, Rutherford County:
On an exposed gravel bar:
Ring-billed Gulls - 500+
Herring Gulls - 4
Bonaparte's Gulls - 15+ in the area
Osprey - 1 - on the island
Last year about this time there was an Osprey in the same tree.
Anderson Road Rec. Area, Davidson Co.:
Merlin - 1 female (in the "Merlin tree") just before sunset
