[TN-Bird] White Pelicans hurt by hail storm

Tuesday evening {April 25} the Dyersburg area was hit by another severe storm
which resulted in severe hail in many places.
A large flock of White Pelicans were caught in one of these storms and forced
down west of Dyersburg. One was killed when it hit a fence near Lenox and one
had its wing broken. The one with the broken wing along with three others
injured were treated by Dave Haggard and released into Reelfoot Lake. The
largest concentration of them came down into a lake just south of Interstate
155 on state route 182.

Most of you are aware that White Pelicans cannot takeoff from dry land. Kathy
Krone did a nice article in the Dyersburg State Gazette on these pelicans.

Betty and I went by the lake on 182 and there were 11 still there. They
appeared to be in good condition.
