Just wanted to advise area birders that Whigg Meadow bird banding activities, Cherokee National Forest, Monroe Co, TN have ended early due to hurricane Ivan and forcasts of high winds and rain. Although we had originally hoped to band Sept 4 - 18, banding was conducted Sept 4 and 5 until Frances closed us down for 3 days. Banding was resumed Sept 9 - 15. Over all numbers were low this year with 424 birds of 28 species banded. This is our second lowest total in 7 seasons of banding. Have not yet calculated birds per net hour but, my impression is that capture rates were low as well. Thank you to all who helped with banding chores. Will post a more complete banding summary in a few days. Dave Vogt Chattanooga, Hamilton Co.
