For those interested:
A trip to Wheeler Ntl Refuge in northern Alabama yesterday was delightful in
weather and in birding. (Often, nasty weather yields better birds!!) Anyhow, we
ended up with 68 species.
With the aid of fellow birders (The Sanders' of Petersburg, TN and Bill
McAllister of Huntsville, Alabama), we were able to see the red-necked grebe
and vermillion flycatcher. A Peregrine Falcon & white pelicans were also
highlights.
Other notes include:
* no bald eagles
* no ospreys
* no vultures
* only the goldfinches were seen of the 3 expected finches
* Sandhill Cranes numbers were down, from what we observed
* Plenty of snow geese, although the number seemed lower, too
Our immediate birding party included myself (Melissa) & Roy Turrentine and Kay
& Ralph Brinkhurst of Lebanon.
The counties birded were Morgan and Limestone Counties.
