Shelby, Co. TN
A late afternoon tour, produced 10 Western Kingbirds, 1 male Scissor-tailed
Flycatcher and two female Hybrids of these two species, at 5 locations.
One female Hybrid, the original female found in 2004, has returned to her
favorite nesting site on President's Island for the 6th year. A male
Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and a Western Kingbird were located within a mile or
so of
her. Another female Hybrid, along with a male Western Kingbird, has
returned to a nesting site used by hybrids for the past 4 years in Frayser, 3
Westerns were seen in the industrial area in southwest Memphis where they were
at nesting sites, and 5 were found around an electrical substation off
Third Street. I did not see any Westerns at the Ensley Stream Plant and did
not make it out to the Chelsea Ave site. But it looks like these birds are
setting up house keeping all over Shelby Co.
Good Birding !!!
